Director of Family Ministry

PURPOSE: To plan develop and implement a dynamic family ministry program (birth through high school) that nurtures the spiritual formation of all children, youth, and families. This includes regular weekly programs and special events as well as at home faith formation. It is important that the
Director inspires and excites the children and adults to learn and study faith by communicating and demonstrating a personal passion for growing in Christ-centered faith. Work with the Christian
Education Committee and Executive Associate Pastor to develop pathways for children, youth, and family engagement in the spiritual formation and the life of the church. This includes program assessment and development of new opportunities.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Executive Associate Pastor


1. Create, organize, and direct an innovative, attractive Christ-focused family ministry at JKPC.
The program should include theological education, spiritual fellowship, discipleship, mission, at home faith formation, equipping volunteers and communication with families, and worship as well as occasional social/mission events. This will include creating a comprehensive scope and sequence that has age-appropriate engaging learning as well as pathways to help families move from one part of the programming to another. This includes aspects of:

Sunday School – create, plan, teach and supervise the Sunday School volunteer, staff, and programs (Nursery through High School classes) to insure theologically appropriate and effective Christian teaching and learning, including recruiting volunteers, and communicating with families and the congregation on a regular basis.
Middle and high school – create , organize, and direct an innovative, attractive Christ- focused youth fellowship program (middle and high school), including regular youth group and special events. In partnership with the Executive Associate Pastor, co-lead the annual summer mission trip, including fundraising and planning.
Family Sundays – facilitate the participation of children and youth in worship. Provide, coordinate, and supervise the children’s sermon on Family Sundays. Involving children in worship allows parents and the congregation to see how our children are taught and the children can experience what their parents do in worship.
Special Events – organize and supervise outreach and special events for children and families to provide pathways for families to get to know the church, become familiar with, and connect with, other ministries of the church. Plan, develop and implement innovative summer Vacation Bible School.
2. Create meaningful relationships with children, youth, and their families, fostering friendships among parents, and helping youth engage with other adults. Provide support to children and families and provide ongoing connection to the life of our congregation.

3. Recruit, train, equip and support volunteers for all aspects of the family ministry. Be cognizant of volunteer spiritual formation and encourage their continued involvement and dedication in the education of the youth of JKPC.

4. Because of the changing landscape of family ministry and the church, other activities may develop and be as assigned by the Executive Associate Pastor.


To be a team-player as a cooperative and supportive person on a staff team through regular and effective communication, an enthusiastic and supportive attitude, and a willingness to adapt and be flexible in support of the needs of other staff and church committees. Respond to requests for information, assistance, and reporting on areas of leadership and responsibility. Be cognizant of volunteer contributions and encourage their continued involvement in and dedication to in the education of the children of JKPC. The Director is encouraged to nurture and grow the Christian faith by integrating family ministry into JKPC’s larger mission and priorities. The activities supported by the
Director should also welcome members of our community that are not yet part of our congregation.


Performance reviews will be conducted regularly by the Executive Associate Pastor and reviewed by the Session Personnel Committee. The Session Personnel Committee will annually review performance and the adequacy of compensation and make recommendations to the Session.

TIME REQUIREMENTS: Full Time, Exempt, 40 Hours, including Sundays and some evenings.
