Director of Youth and Children’s Ministry

Brief Description:

 Full-time Director of Youth and Children’s Ministry serving three PCUSA churches in Rockdale County, GA. This is a full-time Contract Call position with Board of Pensions benefits and the opportunity to be ordained if so desired.

Ministry Context:

 Rockdale County, GA, located only 25 miles east of Atlanta, is home to the Georgia International Horse Park, the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, Panola Mountain State Park, miles of PATH trails, and historic Olde Town Conyers.

 About a decade ago, a “perfect storm” struck the Presbyterian churches of Rockdale County. In addition to the severe recession experienced by most of America, we also felt the effects of a dramatic white flight coupled with an intradenominational schism. As we began to emerge from the recession, we could look around and see fewer and older members on our pews. When we looked at the community beyond our church walls, we found a community that was dramatically more diverse and considerably less affluent. While we saw fewer children and youth within our churches, the lives and souls of those who remained seemed all the more precious, and, perhaps for the first time, we could see the genuine needs of those who had become our true neighbors.

 Each church has responded to God’s call to address these changes including offering a weekly food pantry, a free Wednesday evening meal, and other outreach efforts.

 The churches have partnered in special worship services and VBS in the past and look forward to partnering in outreach in the future. As a group, we are seeking to respond to and incorporate the gifts of our culturally diverse community.
