DIRECTOR OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Director of Christian Education (DCE) provides vision and leadership for overall program development, coordination, and implementation of educational ministries for all ages.  The DCE’s mission is to provide meaningful educational programs, in order that all members of the congregation can better understand God’s will for their lives, feel supported in their spiritual growth, and use their gifts to support others.

Start Date:   January 2018

Accountable To:   Pastor

Ministry Target:   Congregation Members

Position:   20 hours/week

strong interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people of all ages; ability to define

problems, gather information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; a passion for children and partnering with parents to provide Christian education; creativity; knowledge of/willingness to learn about Moravian “culture”

Educational Requirements

        1. degree or equivalent experience in Christian education, teaching, or similar field

        2. 1-2 years of demonstrated successful experience in a similar setting

       

Responsibilities/Duties

        1. Administer children, youth, and adult Sunday School; Confirmation Classes in conjunction

with the pastor; long-term and/or short-term opportunities for small group learning

        2. Teaching – be available to teach on special topics and short-term classes

        3. Curriculum selection and equipping teachers – teacher recruitment and training; maintain a

knowledge of resources that appeal to children, adults, and teachers; equip parents for follow-up education at home; track budget needs and expenditures

        4. Church Nursery – oversee staffing of weekly nursery attendants

        5. Background checks – maintain appropriate documentation for all volunteer education workers

        6. Fellowship groups – oversee and resource youth ministry groups

        7. Plan/direct special annual programs – including Vacation Bible School, Youth Mission Camp, and

Sunday School Christmas Pageant

        8. Chair Christian Education Committee and work with Board of Elders to carry out existing

programming and vision new opportunities

Salary & Continuing Education funding: negotiable, based upon experience
