Monmouth College seeks qualified applications for the position of Worship Leader and Pastor for its Lux Summer Theological Institute for Youth, a two-week residential program from July 15-29, 2018 for high-school youth designed to provide young people with opportunities to engage pertinent topics in theological inquiry. In addition to time in the classroom, students will also learn new modes of worship and spiritual practice, participate in service, experience interfaith activities, and explore their vocation. The Worship Leader and Pastor will be responsible for leading worship, spiritual practices, and may be invited to lead a workshop on vocation. The Worship Leader and Pastor will also be responsible for facilitating community building along with other Institute staff members and providing pastoral care for students.
The primary responsibility of the position centers upon leading daily worship, spiritual practices, and small group sessions with students. The Institute Worship Leader and Pastor will work with Lux Institute staff and students to design and implement worship. The Institute Worship Leader and Pastor will also provide pastoral care to students as needed, and be housed in a private apartment in the dorm where students will be housed. The Worship Leader and Pastor will need to be on campus three days prior to the Institute (July 12-14), and for the entirety of the Institute (July 15-29, 2018). If distance allows, a two-day site visit in early spring 2018 is preferred and can be scheduled with the Institute Director. Travel and housing reimbursement will be provided. Depending on qualifications, the Institute offers a $2,000 stipend in addition to covering travel to and from the summer institute (in compliance with IRS regulations), and room and board on campus.
This program is funded by a major grant that Monmouth has received from Lilly Endowment and is coordinated through the college’s Lux Center for Church and Religious Leadership. The theme for 2018 is Caring for God’s Creation: Thinking Theologically about Ecology and Justice.
