Messiah Moravian Youth Minister Job Description (part-time to start, goal to grow to a full-time position)

Messiah Moravian Church is searching for an exemplary youth pastor to lead and guide our
elementary, middle & high school students. The Youth Minister will grow the youth program &
provide overall leadership to our youth ministry, establish strong relationships with the youth &
parents of our church, maximizing the youth program’s impact in their lives, identify & coordinate
volunteer needs for the program and establish relationships with the community to expand & grow
the program.

To be successful in this position, students must be provided with a place to belong that gives them
the courage to be pursue their own spiritual journey in a safe & nurturing environment. Ideal
candidates should have a proficient understanding of the challenges young people face and will be
compassionate. The youth pastor will model and raise the value of a Christ-centered lifestyle for the
youth of our church.

 Attend and participate in scheduled staff and/or board meetings.
 Oversee, grow, and coordinate the church’s youth ministry.
 Design, oversee, and examine the curriculum for youth programs, trips, events, and classes.
 Lead youth to facilitate and encourage spiritual growth.
 Interact with students during Sunday services, and coordinate Sunday School during
Sunday worship (10:30am-11:30am)
 Organize & compile Sunday school curriculum by age group, and help recruit church
members for implementation of Sunday school programs.
 Coordinate with parents of youth group members regarding their children’s involvement
and participation in the church.
 Develop positive relationships with youth and their parents, and establish regular
communication with each group
 Share program plans to be promoted social media.
 Display a Christ-like approach and lifestyle
 Incorporate youth into various church ministries, and/or establish new areas in which youth
can be involved.
 Develop & maintain effective relationships with various leaders in the community, including
Youth Ministers from other Moravian churches, for the purposes of outreach, involvement
& shared group programs.
 Meeting individually on an ad hoc basis with youth as needed.
 Additional work as needed by the church.

 Bachelor’s degree in theology, biblical studies, or youth ministry – or working toward a
degree in one or more of those areas
 Evident faith and relationship with Jesus Christ, and a calling to youth ministry.
 Alignment to the overall values & concepts of the Moravian Church.
 Self-motivation to lead, capable of casting and imparting vision for ministry. Possess
relational skills with youth, parents, and staff.
 Be able to act with minimal supervision and provide guidance to church leadership in all
areas concerning youth ministry.
 Strong communication & organizational skills.
 Previous youth ministry experience is preferred.
 Proficient understanding of challenges and needs of young people.
 Proficiency with computer skills MS Office Suite
 Available to communicate with youth & parents via email and text, and set up regular
communications with upcoming events and schedules
 Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
 Excellent organizational skills.
 Affinity for young people.
 Ability to lead by example.
 Available to work extended hours, evenings, over weekends and public holidays
 At least 21 years of age & have satisfactory completion of background check and drug
screening .
 Must present the results of a current Coronavirus, Flu, Tuberculin and current
 Must provide 2 references.

Reports to: Senior Pastor & Messiah Moravian Board
Hours: ~10 per week to start / 520 hours annually, not including youth trips and/or retreats (extra
compensation will be given for those events). The goal for this position would be to grow in hours as the program grows.
Part-time Salary: $15,000 per year (additional compensation for hours outside of regular schedule)
Employee Status: Contractor / 1099 (consulting/contractor agreement will be provided)
Benefits: None initially; may be reviewed & considered after 6 months of hire date.
Time off: Unpaid time away will require a 2 week notice request and approval by the Senior Pastor
and Board.

Notes: This role will be subject to a 90 day probationary period. At the end of 90 days, the Senior
Pastor & Board will review performance with regard to position expectations and determine
employment going forward.

Termination Policy: There will be a 90 day probationary period where either party may terminate
employment without cause. Beyond this a two week notice is expected to terminate the contract.
Dependability is essential. Tardiness and excessive absences cannot be tolerated and will result in
termination of employment. Immediate termination will occur in cases of intentional verbal,
physical, or emotional abuse or neglect of any child, parent, or church member. Termination may
occur for failure to carry out job duties as described above.
