Mission and Offering

Annual Event Offering

The Annual Event offering (The Val Murphy Offering) is shared between Local Mission Project (25%, Ethnic Ministry Rebates (25%) and Scholarships (50%).

Mercy Community Church is a multi-denominational worshipping community in downtown Little Rock welcoming all people, especially those living on the streets of the city or in unstable housing. Founding Pastor and Hendrix College Professor Robert Williamson Jr. says, “We founded Mercy on the liberation principle that God is more active at the margins of society than at its center. As such, we created a community that was not a ministry to those living on the streets but a ministry with and among them as friends and neighbors–as brothers and sisters in Christ. Believing in the inherent dignity and worth of all people, Mercy provides a place of hospitality and welcome for those who may not find welcome elsewhere.” https://www.facebook.com/mercychurchlr/

The Val Murphy Offering was established for the purpose of assisting individuals needing financial aid to attend APCE Annual Events and to honor E. Valeria Murphy, an educator and pioneer for minorities in church education. She served a Presbyterian church from 1947 to 1963 and was a former APCE Cabinet member who never missed an Annual Event. Her enthusiasm and dedication inspired the first scholarship ever awarded by APCE, the Val Murphy Scholarship, which encourages cultural diversity among us. Over the years other scholarships came into being and are funded by this offering as well.

APCE offers scholarships to assist those who work in educational ministry to attend the Annual Event. To see a list of the criteria and benefits of these scholarships, please go to www.apcenet.org/scholarships.

Mission Opportunity

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Hygiene Kit Inspection and Packing

Open during Marketplace hours Wednesday Morning through Friday early afternoon.

All conferees are encouraged to stop by the mission table set up in the Marketplace to help inspect PDA Hygiene Kits which have been shipped to Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center. Ferncliff is unique in having its own 10,000 sq ft Disaster Assistance Center commonly referred to as “the DAC.” The DAC has a covenant relationship with Church World Service (CWS) and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA). For CWS, the warehouse is one of two centers designated to receive CWS Gift-of-the-Heart kits from churches around the country and ship them to disaster sites. Conferees can also bring COMPLETED Hygiene Kits to the Annual Event to be delivered to the Disaster Assistance Center at Ferncliff.  For more information see, https://ferncliff.org/outreach/disaster-assistance/
