2019 Connect

Jami Vandock is the Director of Christian Education for Children and Youth at Raleigh Moravian Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. She has happily served the Raleigh Moravian congregation since fall 2015. In addition to curriculum planning and children’s programming, Jami works in partnership with the in residence preschool for weekly chapel programs. She also collaborates with the pastoral assistant to facilitate intergenerational events. Infused in much of her work with children is the strong connection between musical expression and spiritual practice, thus she regularly works in partnership with the church music directors. Provincially, Jami assists with family camp at the Laurel Ridge Camp and Retreat Center located in the Blue Ridge Mountains and is active with an ecumenical educators group in Winston Salem. Jami also serves on a task force for Children and Families of the Moravian Church, Southern Province. Connecting and sharing resources with other church educators is the cornerstone of her work.

Jami began her career in public education as a school music teacher, having earned a Bachelor’s in Music Education from Bowling Green State University and Master’s in Music Education from Kent State University. Music continues to influence her church work and she can be regularly found singing and playing ukulele during children’s church or VBS. She is grateful to be part of the rich music traditions of the Moravian church and credits her Moravian upbringing with much of her musical passion and training. When not at church, Jami enjoys spending time with her husband Kurt, and young children Juliana and Jensen.
