Position Summary
The Director of Youth Ministries develops and leads a comprehensive, Christ-centered ministry for youth in grades 6–12 and their families, as well as welcoming youth in the broader community. The Youth Director also maintains meaningful contact with FPC college students.
Employment and Supervision
Employed by the Session through the Personnel Committee and works in regular consultation with the Pastoral Staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
Programming & Events
• Develop and implement engaging ministry programs for middle and high school youth.
• Lead Sunday evening youth gatherings (“The Wave”), Sunday School (grades 6–12), and events such as retreats, mission trips, and special events (Live Nativity, Youth Sunday, Ski Trip, Mud Bowl).
• Provide leadership and support for Impact Groups.
• Encourage youth participation in worship, Confirmation Class and churchwide events (e.g., Fall Festival, Operation Christmas).
• Be present in weekly worship.
• Continually evaluate and promote youth programs.
Spiritual Leadership
• Shepherd youth in their journey with Christ by discerning and nurturing their spiritual gifts and providing a safe environment in which they may discover and develop those gifts and grow as children of God.
• Lead with a sound understanding of the Bible and the Presbyterian faith.
Relationship Building
• Establish and work collaboratively with a Youth Ministry Team of committed parents.
• Recruit, train, and support adult volunteers while upholding the church’s Child Protection Policy.
• Provide presence and support at milestone and life events, both within the church and in the wider community (first time Liturgist, confirmation class, Scout presentations, high school graduation, special awards, sports, arts, etc.).
• Offer pastoral care in times of need.
Communication & Technology
• By word and example, welcome and encourage all youth and their families to participate in our activities in hopes of including them in the life of the church.
• Use social media, church website, and newsletters weekly to promote youth ministry.
• Maintain regular communication with families, staff, and volunteers.
• Reach out to inactive youth to encourage re-engagement.
Administration & Leadership
• Attend weekly staff meetings and coordinate youth ministry within the church calendar.
• Create and manage youth ministry budget in collaboration with the Youth Ministry Team and Church Business Administrator.
• Maintain organized records, including parental release forms, background checks, permission slips, weekly/monthly/annual activity schedules, and expenses.
• Balance time between office work and community engagement.
• Other duties consistent with this position.
Qualifications and Characteristics
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher), preferably in a field relevant to youth ministry.
• At least 2 years of related experience; background in Christian education preferred.
• Deep and articulate Christian faith with a passion for youth ministry.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a large church environment and maintain confidentiality.
• Self-starter with creativity, integrity, sound judgement, and a good sense of humor.
• Commitment to ongoing personal spiritual and professional development.
• Background check required for all church positions.
Position Details
• Salary range: $50,000 – $55,000
• Hours per week: 40 (Hours will include evenings and weekends and multi day trips.)
• Start date: August 2025
