blog post headerThe Advocate is doing a new thing! As we continue our goal of helping connect, enrich, empower and sustain those serving in educational ministries, we are changing with the times. Over the last year we have transitioned from a quarterly print magazine to a quarterly digital magazine. We are now excited to move to a weekly blog format, which will enable us to share the rich contributions of our writers in much more accessible ways.

We begin during Lent with a series of posts focused on spiritual practices. We’ll hear from Jill Duffield and Lynne Baab as they explore the biblical foundation and congregational implications of spiritual practices. Susan Moorefield will share the use of photography as a spiritual discipline, and Martha Rockenstein writes about working with a spiritual director. Traci Smith and Priscilla Andre-Colton will share ideas for fostering faith through spiritual practices in families and with children. Mary Speedy will offer a wealth of resources on spiritual practices. These and other posts will provide new ways of thinking about how we might draw closer to God. Look for the first post in the series next week, when we’ll learn from David Csinos that children are wired for spirituality.

If you are a member of APCE, and receive the APCE updates by email, you should receive blog posts by email automatically. Click through the email to the Advocate website to find the archives and much of our great content from past issues, including recent articles by some of the speakers and leaders you might have heard at our Annual Event in Chicago, like Lillian Daniel on The Four Types of Nones, or Rodger Nishioka on Forgetting the Past with a Purpose.  Keep in touch, and let us know what ideas you have for future posts. For years, the Advocate has been a way of sharing the best thinking and practices in educational ministry. With our new blog, we look forward to this next way of sharing in ministry together!

Julie Hester serves as Associate Pastor for Children and their Families at Myers Park Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC, and as Moderator for the Advocate Ministry Team for APCE.
