Birmingham Civil Rights Experience/Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Kelly Ingram Park

The group will tour the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. The Civil Rights Institute is part history lesson, part audience participation and part demonstration of how the city has evolved since the 1960s. Photos, videos, audio recordings and exhibits put visitors inside the integration movement. After touring the BCRI, participants will walk through Kelly Ingram Park and by the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. Sunday, September 15, 1963, at 10:22 am, the church became known around the world when a bomb exploded killing four young girls attending Sunday School and injuring more than 20 members of the congregation. The church has been designated a National Historic Landmark and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wear comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Transportation included.

So, Now What? – A Post-event Coaching Experience

There is a minimum of 10 participants by early bird deadline and a maximum of 40 participants total.
Do you find yourself full of excitement, motivation, and inspiration at the end of great continuing education event only to return home to your church and feel deflated and overwhelmed? Do you struggle with processing all that you have learned and how to apply it to your ministry setting? This small group coaching event will give you time to process what you’ve experienced during the Annual Event with others, be coached by an ICF trained coach in a small group and have space to make a ministry plan. We will also meet ahead of the Annual Event by Zoom to give you a chance to connect with colleagues, receive tools to use during the event and discern some goals.
Led by Stephanie Fritz, coordinator, Office of Christian Formation, PC(USA) and a trained ICF trained coach and other trained coaches determined by number of participants.

Montgomery Civil Rights Experience/The Equal Justice Initiative: Legacy Museum and The National Memorial for Peace and Justice

These two stops on Alabama’s Civil Rights’ Trail are two of the most moving and impactful sites you can visit. Bryan Stevenson, the author of Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption is the Founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative from which The Museum and Memorial were developed. The Legacy Museum is an indoor narrative museum with audio, exhibits, art, videos, and comprehensive content about the legacy of enslavement through contemporary issues of mass incarceration. The National Memorial is an outdoor memorial situated on a 6-acre space where visitors walk a path through our history of racial injustice. Wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. There is a restaurant in the museum where the group will stop for lunch. Transportation included.
